2007 Senior Adult Days Recap

September 18th, 2007
9:30am - 3:00pm
"BESIDE STILL WATERS"

“Beside Still Waters” Senior Adult Day held Tuesday Sept 18th was a delightful time for fun, learning, and devotion.  In the morning, 55 senior adult participants from congregations around South Carolina arrived at Camp Kinard in Leesville, SC.  After refreshments the morning kicked off with Rev. Linda Anderson engaging in the 23rd Psalm.  Following the bible study, almost everyone took a half mile nature walk down to Kinard’s Lakes.  At the lake worship site, botanist Dr. Charles Horn presented numerous types of plants including rare plants that are only found in certain regions of the Sand Hills, specifically at Camp Kinard.  Participants found the presentation stimulating and enjoyed the question and answer time with Dr. Horn when many got their own plant questions answered.  A delicious lunch was prepared and served by ChrisDee’s of the Whistle Stop Café in Leesville.  The afternoon was filled with fun camp activities including crafts, hay rides, camp songs, and roasting marshmallows!    “We really enjoyed the day and being at Camp Kinard,” stated Shelby Yonce of Mt. Calvary in Johnston.
Many thanks to all those who participated, and we hope to see everyone for October 30th’s Senior Adult Day “Blow Spirit Blow.”

October 30, 2007
9:30am - 3:00pm
"BLOW, SPIRIT, BLOW"

Tuesday October 30th we celebrated “Blow Spirit Blow” Senior Adult Day as we explored how the Holy Spirit flows in our lives through rhythmic movement led by Amy Hardee, M.S., Nia Black Belt and Dance Instructor.  In the morning we explored the scripture in a moving bible study led by SC Synod’s Assitant to the Bishop, Pastor Mel Amundson.  In the afternoon a delicious lunch was served by ChrisDee’s Catering of Leesville and we were serenaded with the joyful sounds of “God’s Toolbox” Gospel Quartet!  Heather Harris led the group making “pumpkin blocks” crafts and all enjoyed the beautiful fall colors of Camp Kinard on a music filled hayride featuring Amy Catalino on guitar.  Our day of adventure, music, and fellowship wrapped up with marshmallow roasting around the fire pit.  What a great time to be a Lutheran and enjoy the great outdoors that we have in our own SC treasure, Camp Kinard!  Thanks to all who participated!  Y’all come back next year, ya hear?
